Our Sweet Wines

Wines that Whisper of Time and Sunlight. Whether from Roussillon, Hungary,or Andalusia, sweet wines are an invitation to slowness, contemplation, and indulgence. At Vinodelice, we select the finest sweet wines in the world: from vintage French treasures to exotic cuvées from faraway lands.

What Is a Sweet Wine?

A sweet wine is one in which the natural sugar from the grapes has not been completely converted into alcohol. This residual sugar gives the wine a velvety texture, aromas of candied fruit, honey, caramel, or spice while retaining freshness and complexity.

There are two main families:

  • Fortified sweet wines (VDN – “vins doux naturels”): fermentation is stopped by adding alcohol, as in Banyuls,  Maury, Rivesaltes, or Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise.
  • Luscious and semi-sweet wines: made from overripe grapes (such as Sauternes, Tokaji, or Ice Wine).

Our French Sweet Wines: Banyuls, Maury, Rivesaltes, Muscat…

This is the beating heart of our collection. We offer an exceptional range of vintage fortified sweet wines from prestigious Roussillon estates, including:

  • Banyuls Traditionnel L’Etoile 1966, with cocoa and candied fig aromas, rated 20/20 by La Revue du Vin de France.
  • Maury Coume du Roy 1925, a dazzling centenarian, a true piece of history.
  • Rivesaltes 1978 Adrien Cazes, amber depth with notes of dried fruit.
  • Muscat de Rivesaltes 2017 Juliette, full of freshness and white flower notes.

Sweet Wines of the World

Sweetness knows no borders. Our international selections celebrate the great sweet wine traditions of the world:

  • Hungarian Tokaji, the “wine of kings,” blending candied apricot and saffron.
  • Pedro Ximénez from Andalusia, dark and syrupy, perfect over vanilla ice cream.
  • Port (Tawny and Vintage), with aromas of dried fruit and nuts.
  • Ice Wines from Canada or Germany, made from grapes naturally frozen on the vine.

Each bottle tells the story of a terroir, a tradition, and a unique craftsmanship.

Food Pairings with Sweet Wines

Sweet wines are endlessly versatile at the table:

  • With dark chocolate, coffee desserts, red fruit tarts, or poached pears for pure indulgence.

❓ FAQ – All About Sweet Wines

What’s the difference between sweet, semi-sweet, and luscious wines?
Fortified sweet wines (vins doux naturels) are stopped mid-fermentation by adding alcohol to preserve their sugars. Semi-sweet and luscious wines owe their sweetness to natural grape concentration through raisining or noble rot (botrytis).

How should sweet wine be stored?
Properly sealed, a fortified sweet wine can be kept for years. Once opened, it can stay fresh for several weeks in the fridge without losing its aromatic qualities.

How much sugar is in a sweet wine?
Between 45 and over 100 g/L, depending on the style. Maury  and Banyuls typically range from 80 to 100 g/L.

Where can I buy rare sweet wines?
At Vinodelice, we offer a unique selection of French and
international sweet wines including several centenary vintages, perfect for gifting or collecting.
