AOP MAURY Roussillon, France

Maury Vintage: Exceptional Fortified Sweet Wines

Nestled in the heart of Roussillon, the Maury vineyard is a true land of contrasts. Here, on black schist soils swept by the tramontane wind and bathed in sunshine, inimitable wines are born. Made primarily from Grenache noir, Maury is a traditional fortified sweet wine: rich, solar, and intense.

Thanks to the mutage technique (adding alcohol during fermentation), it retains natural sweetness that enhances its aromas of candied dark fruits, cocoa, spices, and dried fruits.

Maury Styles

  • Maury Vin Doux Naturel (VDN): the historic style, vintage or old reserve, ideal as a meditation wine or paired with chocolate and rich desserts.
  • Maury Tuilé: long oxidative aging in barrels, with notes of rancio, walnuts, figs, and toasted flavors.
  • Maury Blanc: rarer, made from white grape varieties, developing aromas of honey, dried fruits, and spices.
  • Maury Sec: since 2011, the appellation also produces dry reds, powerful and spicy, perfect for accompanying meats and world cuisines.

Grape Varieties and Terroir

  • Grenache noir: emblematic grape variety (at least 75% of the blend), giving power and generosity to Maury wines.
  • Complementary varieties: Syrah, Carignan, Grenache blanc, Grenache gris, Macabeu depending on styles.
  • Terroir: black schists and very sunny Mediterranean climate → optimal ripeness, concentration, and intense aromas.

Why Choose a Vintage Maury?

  • A journey through time: each vintage tells a story, from 1925 to today.
  • An exceptional aging wine: thanks to mutage, Maury wines cross decades without losing their brilliance.
  • Unique aromas: candied fruits, cocoa, coffee, figs, prunes, spices, rancio with time.
  • Incomparable price-pleasure ratio: accessible compared to other great aged sweet wines.
