AOP MAURY Roussillon, France
Nestled in the heart of Roussillon, the Maury vineyard is a true land of contrasts. Here, on black schist soils swept by the tramontane wind and bathed in sunshine, inimitable wines are born. Made primarily from Grenache noir, Maury is a traditional fortified sweet wine: rich, solar, and intense.
Thanks to the mutage technique (adding alcohol during fermentation), it retains natural sweetness that enhances its aromas of candied dark fruits, cocoa, spices, and dried fruits.
Renowned oenologist and Roussillon wine figure Bruno Cazes has assembled here a rare selection of old traditional and tuilé Maury wines, perfect for collectors and lovers of great dessert wines:
Offering a vintage Maury is much more than a bottle: it's a piece of history to share. Each vintage embodies the year of its birth, with its nuances, climate, and unique imprint.
A Maury 1974 or 1982 would be an exceptional gift to mark an anniversary, wedding year, or jubilee. A Maury from the 1920s to 1950s becomes a patrimonial treasure, destined for the most discerning enthusiasts.
Examples from our selection:
An old Maury is much more than a wine: it's living memory. From candied fruit to chocolate through rancio notes, these cuvées cross decades with elegance. Exceptional gift, meditation wine, or collector's bottle, our unique selection of Traditional, Tuilé, and Doré Maury invites you to travel back in time, glass by glass.
What is a Maury Vin Doux Naturel? It's a fortified wine from Roussillon, made by mutage, which retains part of its natural sugars and develops rich, candied aromas.
What's the difference between Maury and Banyuls? Both are fortified sweet wines from Roussillon, but Maury is dominated by Grenache noir and distinguished by its schist terroir and tuilé or doré versions.
Can you keep a Maury for a long time? Yes! Vintage Maury wines can be kept for several decades, some still brilliant after 50 to 80 years.
What to drink with Maury? Maury perfectly accompanies chocolate, desserts, foie gras, and certain powerful cheeses like Roquefort.
Does dry Maury exist? Yes, since 2011 the appellation also produces dry red wines, powerful and spicy, which you'll find in our Roussillon wine selection.
Is Maury a good gift idea? Absolutely. A vintage Maury is a perfect gift for a discerning enthusiast. Choosing a birth year or anniversary vintage makes it a unique and memorable gesture.
Where to buy Maury? You can order your Maury online at Vinodelice, which offers a rare selection of old vintages, from 1925 to 2005.
