🇫🇷 AOP MAURY | Roussillon  | France

History

The NSCR (Nouvelle Société de la Côte Radieuse), founded in 2006 in Rivesaltes, specializes in showcasing aged Vins Doux Naturels. Honoring the winemaking heritage of Roussillon, it offers historic vintages of Rivesaltes, Banyuls, and Maury, some dating back to the 1930s. This 1975 Maury Traditionnel embodies the excellence of the appellation, crafted from black schist and marls in the Agly Valley, the emblematic terroir of Grenache. A rare wine, now celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Vinification

Produced according to the traditional Vins Doux Naturels method, Maury is made through mutage—a process invented in the 13th century by Arnau de Vilanova. Fully ripe grapes undergo extended maceration before being fortified with neutral alcohol to preserve their natural sugars. Oxidative aging in old vessels allows the wine to develop the aromatic complexity that defines its uniqueness.

Tasting Notes

Its deep brick-red color preludes an enchanting bouquet of walnut, chocolate, black cherry, black raspberry, and coffee. On the palate, elegance prevails: silky texture, comforting warmth, and a persistent finish of dried fruits and cocoa. A true meditation wine, best enjoyed on its own, yet also pairs wonderfully with chocolate fondant, roasted figs, caramelized walnuts, or a creamy blue cheese.
