Banyuls Traditionnel 1984, L'Etoile
Banyuls Traditionnel 1984, L'Etoile
History
The 1984 vintage embodies all the richness of the Banyuls appellation and the passion of the winemakers at the Cave de l’Étoile. More than thirty years of oxidative aging have shaped this rare wine, bottled in January 2016, a true witness to the history of Roussillon and its centuries-old traditions.
Vinification
From old-vine Grenache Noir, complemented by Grenache Gris and Carignan, this Banyuls was crafted following the traditional method of vins doux naturels: fortification on the skins followed by extended maceration, then long aging in old oak barrels and demi-muids. This slow work of time develops the rancio aromas, so typical of great Banyuls.
Tasting Notes
Its tile-red robe with mahogany highlights announces full maturity. The nose reveals intense notes of dried fruits, walnut, fig, coffee, and cocoa, lifted by a touch of caramel and gentle spices. On the palate, the balance between power and freshness delights: broad, warm, and persistent, the finish lingers with subtle accents of rancio and mocha. Perfect with dark chocolate desserts, a dried fruit tart, or simply as a wine for meditation.
