Hewitson, 'Baby Bush' Mourvèdre 2021
DESCRIPTION
Hewitson is not your average winemaker. Dean Hewitson, aka the ‘Mad Hatter,’ makes extraordinary wine, some from extraordinarily old vines that date back to 1853 (P.P. - pre-phylloxera). The Baby Bush was born from ‘baby vines’ planted using vines from one of the oldest Mourvèdre vines in the world. The grape here is undeniably excellent. This wine, a sort of Darwinian product, is filled with yummy notes of coffee grinds, cherry, blueberry, chocolate, warm earth and even herbs and beef stock. The tannins are silky smooth and the finish is juicy and sweet. This wine is the ideal partner for ratatouille, mushroom risotto or roasted chicken.

I loved this Mourvèdre from very old vines from 1853. You really feel the concentration in the wine—it’s powerful and silky at the same time.
