Banyuls Traditionnel 1983, L'Etoile
Banyuls Traditionnel 1983, L'Etoile
History
The 1983 vintage, marked by balanced climatic conditions in Roussillon, produced wines of great harmony. More than three decades of oxidative aging in old oak barrels have allowed this Banyuls to reveal its full complexity and offer today a unique sensory experience.
Vinification
Predominantly Grenache Noir, accompanied by Grenache Gris and Carignan from old vines on schist terraces. The grapes were crushed and destemmed, then fortified on the skins (mutage) followed by a long maceration, before traditional aging in barrels and demi-muids, bottled in January 2016. This patient work gives the wine its deep aromatic profile, typical of rancio.
Tasting Notes
Its tile-colored robe with copper highlights precedes a refined nose of dried fruits, prune, cocoa, and gentle spices, mingled with notes of leather and mocha. The palate, broad and velvety, opens with dried fig and walnut, extended by a persistent finish with roasted accents. An ideal companion for game in sauce, blue-veined cheeses, or a dessert with candied citrus.
