Henschke Wheelwright Shiraz 2019 is sourced from The Wheelwright vineyard planted in 1968 at an altitude of 470m in the Eden Valley, cultivated using organic and biodynamic practices, on sandy-loam soils with gravel, rock, and hints of clay. Aged for 18 months in oak barrels (10% new, 90% seasoned, French and American). It features 14.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.64, and 5.9 g/L of total acidity. Aging potential of over 30 years.
On the nose, refined aromas of raspberry, blueberry, blackberry, violet, and vanilla blossom, with notes of anise, bay leaf, cedar, and black pepper. On the palate, ample and structured, supported by a lively acidity and fine tannins. The finish is long, elegant, and persistent. Pairs with a lamb in a sweet spice crust or a dry-aged ribeye steak.
Australia
Eden Valley is located in the Barossa and is recognised as one of the world’s great Riesling regions, and one of Australia’s premier cool climate wine regions. Eden Valley wines are distinctive in their character, displaying wonderful aromatics, elegance, complexity and finesse. With a wine making history dating back to 1847, Eden Valley is home to some of the world’s oldest Shiraz and Riesling vineyards. Traditional grape growing continues with a focus on sustainability, with fifth and sixth generations of the original settlers continuing to operate their family wineries.
