Renowned for its rich, ripe Pinot Grigio, the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region boasts over thirty grape varieties, both native and international. Emblematic varieties include Friulano, Ribolla Gialla and Malvasia Istriana, which produce dry white wines with good natural acidity, perfectly reflecting the minerality and salinity of Friulian soils. In reds, Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso and Schioppettino offer structured, spicy wines deeply rooted in their terroir. Alongside them, international varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc have found their place and express their unique character here.
The region's geographical diversity is reflected in its wine styles: in the north, the temperate continental climate favors fresh, floral whites, while the areas closer to the sea, such as Isonzo and Carso, produce taut, saline and mineral wines, perfect for accompanying seafood, grilled fish or Slavic-inspired dishes.
Finally, Friuli is also one of the historic cradles of Prosecco, the refreshing sparkling white wine now famous the world over.
Malvasia 2022 from Fantin Nodar delivers citrus zest, peach, and a hint of almond. It’s vibrant and smooth with a pleasantly dry finish. A perfect pairing for Mediterranean dishes, salads, or sushi.
Fantin Nodar’s Malvasia 2022 is bright and expressive, with fragrant notes of white flowers, apricot, and ripe pear. Light on its feet with crisp acidity, this wine is both refreshing and charming—perfect for warm evenings or seafood starters.
The lavender and briny hints combined with crisp acidity make this a standout white. I enjoyed it with grilled shellfish, and it was a perfect match.
