History
Born in the heart of the Agly Valley, the Vignerons de Maury cooperative has been preserving the art of Vins Doux Naturels since 1910. The 2002 vintage, less sunny than its neighboring years, reveals a beautiful harmony between concentration and freshness. On the iconic black schist soils of the appellation, this Maury Vieille Réserve expresses a rare balance that captivates lovers of complex and refined wines.
Vinification
Harvested at full ripeness, the grapes undergo traditional maceration on the skins to extract color and body. Fermentation is halted by mutage, preserving the natural sweetness of the grapes. Oxidative aging takes place in old oak barrels, where subtle evaporation and micro-oxygenation refine the tannins and develop the renowned noble rancio typical of great Maury wines.
Tasting Notes
The tawny robe with mahogany highlights announces a wine of character. The nose reveals intense aromas of figs, prunes, cocoa, and sweet spices, supported by hints of toasted walnuts. On the palate, breadth and velvety texture dominate, balanced by persistent freshness. The finish is long and warm, extending the charm of this vintage. Ideal with a walnut tart, a dark chocolate dessert, or creamy Roquefort. Serve between 12 and 14 °C.

France

Despite a more irregular vintage marked by rain, this 23-year-old Vieille Réserve demonstrates the winemakers' ability to overcome climatic difficulties.
