History
Founded around 1850 and passed down through generations, Domaine de la Coume du Roy is one of the oldest and most prestigious producers in Maury. Now run by Agnès and Jean-François Bachelet, it embodies an exceptional family heritage, with collectible vintages preserved since the late 19th century.
Vinification
Made from Grenache Noir and Blanc grown on the black schist soils of Maury, this natural sweet wine was produced by mutage on the skins, halting fermentation to preserve the grapes’ natural sugars. After a long maceration, it aged for nearly 70 years in oxidative conditions, between old oak casks and glass demijohns exposed to the sun, developing unique aromas linked to noble rancio.
Tasting Notes
This Maury Doré 1955 displays a deep mahogany hue with amber highlights. The nose reveals a complex palette of dried fruits, roasted coffee, candied morello cherries, prunes, and gentle spices. On the palate, it is broad and velvety, combining power with elegance, leading to an endless finish of caramel and walnuts. A contemplative wine, ideal with foie gras, blue cheeses, aged Comté, or a dark chocolate dessert.
Italie
