Revelation from Jumilla region, Altos de la Hoya 2023 embodies the essence of Monastrell according to Olivares. From ungrafted vines averaging 45 years old on Finca "Hoya de Santa Ana", this wine reveals all the nobility of this Mediterranean grape at 830-840m altitude.
On the nose, it seduces with deep aromas of ripe red and black fruits, enhanced by characteristic mineral and spicy notes. The palate unveils power and freshness, with a long finish featuring persistent black fruit notes.
Aged 6-8 months in French barrels, it expresses the authenticity of limestone terroir. Acclaimed by international critics (91 points Robert Parker 2023), this exceptional wine offers remarkable value. Its intense character and aromatic density make it an essential discovery.
Spain
The Murcia region lies in southeast Spain. Thanks to its continental and Mediterranean climate, its grapes are concentrated and sweet. There are three appellations of origin: Bullas, Jumilla and Yecla. Here Monastrell (Mourvèdre) shows at its best, a grape with low acidity but a beautiful tannic structure. Monastrell gives warm, full bodied wines with aromas of fruit, pepper and truffle. Other red grapes grown in the region include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. For whites, Macabeo and Airén, two typical Spanish grapes, are joined by Muscat, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pedro Ximénez.
Jérôme - Local Nose
The Altos de la Hoya 2023 is a red wine that pairs perfectly with red meat, duck, or grilled dishes. Surprisingly good also with fresh cheese and red fruits. Open it a little beforehand so it can express itself better!
