Banyuls Traditionnel 1969, L'Etoile
Banyuls Traditionnel 1969, L'Etoile
History
Born in 1969, this Banyuls Traditionnel showcases the artistry of the winemakers at the Cave de l’Étoile, a pioneer of the vineyard since 1921. On the steep terraces of black schist overlooking the Mediterranean, Grenache and Carignan vines express the full strength of this heroic terroir, carefully tended by hand.
Vinification
A blend of Grenache Noir, Grenache Gris, and Carignan from old vines, this vin doux naturel was crafted by fortification (mutage) on the skins after prolonged maceration to extract color and structure. Its extended oxidative aging in old casks and century-old barrels enriched its aromatic palette with unique depth.
Tasting Notes
Mahogany-colored robe with copper highlights precedes a captivating nose of dried fruits, fig, and walnut, intertwined with cocoa, leather, and mocha. On the palate, breadth is balanced by elegant freshness, supported by noble rancio and a persistent finish with notes of gentle spices and roasted coffee. A vintage over 50 years old, ideal to share with a chocolate dessert, walnut tart, or simply as a collector’s bottle.
