DESCRIPTION
The Story
At the heart of Bas-Armagnac, Maison Baron Gaston Legrand, founded in Lannepax over a century ago, perpetuates the art of vintage eaux-de-vie. This vintage perfectly embodies the elegance of the Gascon terroir: a spirit patiently aged in oak barrels for several decades, where time has chiseled every nuance. Today, the Lhéraud family watches over this living heritage, a symbol of rare and timeless expertise.
The Vinification
Distilled at low proof according to the traditional method, this Bas Armagnac has aged slowly in Gascon oak barrels, whose natural porosity encourages subtle micro-oxygenation. The sandy-clay soils, rich in iron oxides (the famous sables fauves or tawny sands), give the eaux-de-vie from this region their supple structure and aromatic finesse. With more than sixty years of aging, this 1960 vintage illustrates the harmony between the power of the wood and the delicacy of the fruit.
The Tasting
The Bas Armagnac Baron Gaston Legrand 1960 unveils a round and silky palate, carried by a delicate texture and exemplary balance. The nose opens with notes of walnut, prune, and dry herbs, supported by an elegant woodiness of cedar and blonde tobacco. Upon aeration, nuances of vanilla, fern, and noble rancio appear, testifying to long, controlled aging. Elegant, complex, and mellowed by time, this eau-de-vie is the perfect exceptional gift for Christmas, a birthday, or to delight a great spirits connoisseur.
REGION
Gascogne
France
