Kanonkop Estate is a true family story. For four generations, the Sauer clan (now Krige) has helped shape the greatness of South African wine. The estate’s name comes from the word kanon (cannon), referring to the one that, in the 17th and 18th centuries, signaled the arrival of ships in Cape Bay. The blast would also alert farmers to head to the port to trade their goods.
This Pinotage shines with a bright purple-red color. The nose bursts with bold aromas of plum, blackberry, hints of licorice and tar, along with layers of smoke, roasted nuts, and vanilla. On the palate, it’s rich with flavors of plum, cherry, black fig, dark chocolate, blackberry, and spicy oak. Velvety, creamy tannins are balanced by a satisfying acidity, delivering impressive length and depth.
