🇫🇷 AOP MAURY | Roussillon  | France

History

Since 1910, the Vignerons de Maury have crafted iconic natural sweet wines on the black schist soils of the Agly Valley. The cooperative, a flagship of the appellation, excels particularly in its Vieilles Réserves, true witnesses of time. The 2003 vintage, marked by a heatwave, delivers a sunny and concentrated cuvée, reflecting the exceptional richness of this extraordinary year.

Vinification

Harvested at optimal ripeness, the Grenache grapes underwent prolonged maceration to fully express the fruit’s aromatic power. Mutage, carried out during fermentation, preserved the grapes’ natural sweetness. Oxidative aging continued for many years in old oak barrels, exposed to air, giving the wine its depth and characteristic aromas of walnut, spices, and noble rancio.

Tasting Notes

The tawny robe with mahogany highlights announces a wine of character. The nose reveals intense notes of dried figs, candied black fruits, and cocoa, accented by a subtle spicy and slightly smoky touch. On the palate, the richness of the vintage unfolds in a broad, velvety texture, balanced by fine mineral freshness. The finish stretches long, with nuances of coffee and toasted dried fruits. Enjoy with dark chocolate fondant, fig tart, or for bolder pairings, a creamy blue cheese or spiced duck breast. Serve between 12 and 14 °C; decanting can help the wine fully open.
