History
Founded in 1895 by Michel Cazes, Maison Cazes has become one of the emblematic estates of Roussillon. Nestled between the Corbières and the Mediterranean, the family now manages over 220 hectares fully converted to organic and biodynamic farming. This Rivesaltes Tuilé 1986 comes from vines rooted in clay-limestone soils dotted with schist and pebbles, in the heart of the Agly Valley—a terroir ideal for producing Vins Doux Naturels with remarkable power and complexity.
Vinification
The grapes, destemmed and fermented at controlled temperatures (28 °C), were muté in the liquid phase with the addition of neutral alcohol, then aged extensively using the traditional oxidative method. Thirty years of patient maturation in barrels and old vessels have shaped a rare wine, rated 16/20 by Revue du Vin de France, exemplifying the art of aging VDN.
Tasting Notes
The mahogany-tinged robe announces a deep wine. The nose combines roasted notes, old wood, cocoa, prunes, toasted almonds, and dried fruits. On the palate, it is full-bodied and concentrated, revealing impressive length and a balance between sweetness and freshness. Enjoy as an aperitif or digestif, or with oriental pastries, chocolate, or coffee desserts. Its aging potential is limitless, with each year adding new dimensions.
