The Story
Founded over a century ago in Lannepax, in the heart of Bas-Armagnac, Maison Baron Gaston Legrand embodies the noblest soul of Gascony. This 1942 vintage, hand-distilled and aged for nearly a century in oak barrels, bears witness to an unaltered expertise. Since 1998, the Lhéraud family has perpetuated this rare heritage, safeguarding a collection of historic vintages that make every bottle a true piece of history.
The Vinification
The 1942 vintage is made from the Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche, and Baco Blanc grape varieties, distilled according to the traditional low-proof method. Aging in Gascon oak barrels, sometimes supplemented with Limousin or Monlezun wood, allows for slow and controlled micro-oxygenation. This process contributes to the harmonious evolution of aromas and tannins, imparting depth, complexity, and woody and vanilla notes to this exceptional eau-de-vie.
The Tasting
The intense amber color heralds a generous nose of candied fruits, prune, vanilla, and sweet spices. On the palate, the Armagnac is distinguished by its roundness and balance, with a velvety texture and a remarkable length on the finish. Every sip reveals the elegance and finesse typical of great Bas-Armagnacs, offering a refined and memorable tasting experience.

La Gascogne, territoire historique du sud-ouest de la France s'étendant sur le Gers, les Landes et le Lot-et-Garonne, est le berceau de l'Armagnac, la plus ancienne eau-de-vie de France. Ce spiritueux d'exception, élaboré depuis le XIVe siècle, incarne l'âme et la tradition de cette région au caractère affirmé.
L'Armagnac se décline en trois zones d'appellation distinctes : le Bas-Armagnac, reconnu comme le plus noble des crus avec ses sols sablo-argileux (sables fauves) qui confèrent finesse et élégance ; la Ténarèze, dont les sols argilo-calcaires produisent des armagnacs puissants et structurés ; et le Haut-Armagnac, aux sols argilo-calcaires plus durs. Ces trois terroirs reposent sur le cône alluvial de Lannemezan, formé de sables, d'argiles et de galets issus de l'érosion des Pyrénées, créant des conditions idéales pour l'élaboration d'eaux-de-vie d'exception.
Distillé traditionnellement en alambic continu à bas degré et vieilli longuement en fûts de chêne gascon ou du Limousin, l'Armagnac développe une palette aromatique profonde et harmonieuse : prune, pruneau, fruits confits, noix, vanille, miel, épices douces, tabac et rancio noble.
