Casarena Lauren's Vineyard Cabernet Franc 2019 comes from the Lauren vineyard, located in one of the coolest areas of Agrelo, on clay-sandy soils in Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza. Hand-harvested, it is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels with 30% first-use wood. In 2022, Tim Atkin MW named it Argentine Wine of the Year, awarding it 95 points and praising a balanced, refined wine with aromas of dill and sage. Casarena, founded in 2008, works this parcel with extreme attention to biodiversity.
On the nose, aromas of cherry, blackberry, grilled asparagus, and red bell peppers. The palate is structured and lively, with well-integrated tannins providing balance and depth. A perfect accompaniment for a beef stir-fry with bell peppers or pasta with wild mushrooms and truffle. Aging potential of 10 years and more.
Argentina
Mendoza is the largest wine-producing region in Argentina. Located on a high plateau on the edge of the Andes, the province is responsible for approximately 70% of the country's annual wine production. The French grape variety Malbec has its New World home in the vineyards of Mendoza, producing red wines of great concentration and intensity. While Malbec is undoubtedly the star of the region, there are also numerous plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Syrah, Torrontes and Sauvignon Blanc.
Jana - Local Nose
This characterful Cabernet Franc, featuring notes of roasted bell pepper and black cherry, has a long and silky finish.
