Our Red Burgundy Wines
Our Red Burgundy Wines
Pinot Noir is grown all over the world. But it speaks Burgundian like nowhere else. Discover our selection of red Burgundies, from the elegance of Volnay to the depth of Beaune Premier Cru and the character of Pommard.
Our Red Burgundy Wines
Volnay, Beaune Premier Cru or Pommard... three appellations, three personalities, one shared passion for terroir.
At Vinodelice, we have made a deliberate choice: rather than multiplying producers, we have selected a single estate, Vincent Girardin, one of Burgundy's most trusted names according to the Guide Vert of the Revue du Vin de France. A tight, focused selection that puts the great reds of the Côte de Beaune centre stage.
Why are red Burgundy wines so highly regarded?
The great red wines of Burgundy are made almost exclusively from Pinot Noir. Unlike other great French reds that rely on power or concentration, they seduce through their finesse, freshness and remarkable ability to translate the subtleties of terroir.
A few kilometres is enough to shift the style of a wine entirely. It is this diversity that makes Burgundy one of the most fascinating vineyards in the world.
Burgundy also produces a few Gamay-based reds, particularly in certain regional appellations and in the neighbouring Beaujolais. But it is the great Pinot Noirs that have built its international reputation.
Our selection: the Côte de Beaune by Vincent Girardin
Our selection puts the Côte de Beaune centre stage, where Pinot Noir expresses itself with remarkable elegance.
Vincent Girardin's story began in 1980. At just 19, he took over the two hectares of vines passed down by his parents before founding his own négociant house in 1992. Today, under the guidance of Éric Germain and his team, the estate continues that same pursuit of precision that has earned it a place among Burgundy's most trusted names in the Guide Vert of the Revue du Vin de France.
Volnay Vieilles Vignes 2019
The most delicate wine in our selection. A floral, silky and refined Pinot Noir, marked by red fruit and great elegance. A superb introduction to the great red Burgundies.
Beaune Premier Cru Les Aigrots 2018
The perfect balance between finesse and structure. Deeper than the Volnay, it develops beautiful complexity while retaining great freshness.
Pommard Vieilles Vignes 2018
The most powerful of the three. A firm structure, dark fruit, spice and fine ageing potential. The ideal choice for lovers of characterful red Burgundy.

FAQ
Are all red Burgundies made from Pinot Noir?
The vast majority are. Pinot Noir is the emblematic grape variety of the great red wines of Burgundy.
What is the difference between Volnay and Pommard?
Volnay favours finesse, red fruit and floral notes. Pommard offers more structure, power and greater ageing potential.
What is the best red Burgundy?
There is no single best red Burgundy. It all depends on the style you are looking for: Volnay for elegance, Beaune Premier Cru for balance, Pommard for power.
Can red Burgundy be cellared?
Yes. The finest red Burgundies often evolve over ten to fifteen years, sometimes more depending on the vintage.
Why are red Burgundies sometimes expensive?
The price reflects the scarcity of the terroirs, the prestige of the appellations and the meticulous work of the estates. Each plot produces wines of a unique identity.
Where to buy red Burgundy?
The best option is to go through a specialist wine merchant offering a coherent selection of recognised producers.
At Vinodelice, we have taken a deliberately exacting approach by working exclusively with Vincent Girardin, to allow you to discover three great expressions of Pinot Noir from the Côte de Beaune.
