Escarpment Kupé Pinot Noir 2021 comes from the historic Te Muna Road vineyard, embodying the distinctive character of Martinborough with incomparable elegance and depth. Aged for 20 months in French oak barrels (37% new), it displays opulence and richness.
The nose reveals red and black fruits, enriched with nuances of dried porcini mushrooms and cured meat. The palate is opulent and rich, evolving with elegance, carried by a firm tannic profile. Aging potential of 20 years. Pairing with roasted duck with cherries and red wine sauce or roast beef with sweet spices.
New Zealand
Wairarapa, whose Māori name means "glistening waters", is a compact and understated region nestled in the southern tip of the North Island, just over an hour's drive from Wellington. Identified as early as the late 1970s as climatically similar to Burgundy, its free-draining gravel terraces and cool, dry climate have given rise to some of the most sought-after Pinot Noirs in New Zealand. Its three subregions, Martinborough, Gladstone and Masterton, share a common foundation while offering subtle differences in character for the discerning palate to explore. Martinborough expressions lean toward elegance and finesse, with notes of red cherry, strawberry, dried herbs and earthy undertones that develop toward leather and forest floor complexity with age. A region that produces little, but produces exceptionally well, resolutely focused on quality over volume.
