Holdvölgy Expression SV Becsek 2018 is a 100% Hárslevelű from the historic Becsek Cru, classified as a 1er Cru, located in Mád and surrounded by volcanic cones. Directly pressed, fermented, and then aged for 5 months in Seguin Moreau French oak barrels. Residual sugar 6.7 g/L, total acidity 6.4 g/L, alcohol 14%. The 2018 vintage, despite early frosts, allowed for a dry harvest as early as September, yielding a concentrated, precise, and bright wine. Founded in 2004 by Pascal Demko, the Holdvölgy estate spans 28 hectares spread across seven crus of Mád, in the heart of Tokaj. Renowned for its commitment to excellence, it offers a diverse range extending from vibrant dry wines to exceptional sweet wines, highlighting the richness of volcanic soils. The aging cellar dates back to the 14th century and is one of the longest in the region. The estate also offers a modern and accessible range, 'Hold and Hollo', which captivates with its young, fresh, and dynamic style.
On the nose, notes of jasmine, chamomile, fresh thyme, and pear, supported by a subtle spicy touch from the oak aging. On the palate, lively and elegant, carried by crisp pear, with a fresh, mineral, and precise finish boasting beautiful tension. It pairs perfectly with roasted pike-perch with lemon beurre blanc and braised fennel or herb-roasted free-range poultry. Serve between 10 and 12°C. Cellaring potential of 10 years.

A microclimate, a volcanic soil, and a little mushroom called botrytis, also known as “noble rot” all contribute to making Tokaj a fruitful location. The noble rot shrivels the ripe grapes, thus creating Aszú, the famous sweet wines of the region. These wines, filled to the brim with sweet and concentrated aromas, are the flagship product of Tokaj. In addition to Aszú, Furmint Dry and Tokaji Eszencia are also a must-try.
