Kanonkop Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 is a structured and elegant Cabernet Sauvignon from Simonsberg, crafted by Abrie Beeslaar from vines with an average age of 30 years. Fermented in open concrete tanks with manual punch-downs and aged for 24 months in French oak barrels (50% new, 50% second-use), it features 14.5% alcohol and 2.8 g/L of residual sugar.
On the nose, complex aromas of cedarwood, cigar box, cassis, pencil shavings, bay leaf, and a hint of paprika. On the palate, powerful and structured, with complex layers, silky tannins, and a long, balanced finish. Pairs beautifully with braised game or rosemary lamb chops.
South Africa
Stellenbosch is undoubtedly South Africa’s most prestigious wine region. Located in the coastal region of the Western Cape, east of Cape Town, it enjoys a Mediterranean climate tempered by sea breezes and sheltered by surrounding mountains. Its varied terroir – granite, shale, and sandy soils – allows for the production of both powerful red wines and elegant whites.
While Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux-style blends (with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot) have built its reputation, Stellenbosch is also renowned for its refined Chenin Blancs, distinctive Chardonnays, and expressive Syrahs. Home to many iconic estates, this appellation remains a showcase of South African winemaking expertise.
