History
The year 1982 in Roussillon was marked by excellent ripeness of the Grenache grapes, ideal for producing great vins doux naturels. Aged for over three decades under oxidative conditions, this Banyuls expresses the full richness of its schist terroir and showcases the ancestral expertise of the Cave de l’Étoile.
Vinification
A blend dominated by Grenache Noir, complemented by Grenache Gris and Carignan from old vines on steep terraces. After destemming and crushing, fortification (mutage) was performed on the skins, followed by several weeks of maceration. The wine then rested in old barrels and demi-muids, bottled in January 2016. This long aging gives it depth and balance.
Tasting Notes
Bright mahogany-colored robe with amber highlights. Intense nose of walnut, dates, and cocoa, enhanced by a touch of noble rancio. On the palate, breadth and freshness combine with flavors of dried fruits, coffee, and licorice, supported by a persistent and harmonious finish. Best enjoyed with spiced roasted duck breast, aged Comté, or as a dessert with a dark chocolate fondant.
Italie

From the schist-covered slopes of Banyuls, the 1982 vintage displays a mahogany-colored robe and an intense nose of walnut, cocoa, and rancio. The palate, broad and fresh, finishes with beautiful notes of dried fruits and coffee. A delight with dark chocolate, aged Comté, or roasted duck breast.
