Mas de Lavail, La Désirade 2021

🇫🇷 Côtes de Roussillon Villages AOC | Languedoc-Roussillon | France
La Désirade 2021 is an example of the beauty of complexity. This wine is picked from old, low-yield vines. Grape-wise, it is made up of 50% Syrah, 25% Carignan and 25% Grenache Noir. La Désirade sparks a lovely dance of red berries and velvety tannins on the tongue. The bouquet is intensely flavored with blackcurrant, blackberries, and black cherries. Once this wine hits the palate, it is quite expressive and full. While cherry flavors lead the dance, they quickly open up to invite notes of underbrush and roasted coffee. La Désirade has a long finish and ends its show with special appearances of licorice, cacao and scrubland. It will complement well lamb, a beautiful steak or game.

Languedoc-Roussillon

France

Languedoc-Roussillon is one of France's largest wine-growing regions, situated on the border with Spain. Its vast size is matched by a remarkable diversity of soils and terroirs, all bathed in a warm, sunny Mediterranean climate that is particularly favorable to vine-growing. This richness is also reflected in the grape varieties grown, ranging from Cabernet Sauvignon to Carignan for the reds, or Grenache Blanc to Bourboulenc for the whites, but Roussillon in particular is also distinguished by a historic and deeply local specialty: vins doux naturels (VDN). Made from grape varieties such as Grenache, Macabeu or Muscat, these wines are mutated with alcohol during fermentation to retain some of their natural sugars. Emblematic appellations such as Banyuls, Maury, Rivesaltes and Muscat de Rivesaltes offer an incredible range of styles, from the fruitiest to the most oxidative, perfect as aperitifs or with cheeses and desserts.
