Shaw + Smith Balhannah Vineyard Shiraz 2021 comes from the Balhannah Vineyard in the Adelaide Hills (380m altitude), planted in 2005 on clay-loam soils interspersed with ironstone, quartzite, and schist. After aging for 14 months in 600L French oak casks (15% new) followed by 14 months in bottle, it reveals a complex nose of spices and red fruits. It features 14% alcohol and 5.3 g/L total acidity. Cellaring potential of 20 years.
On the nose, it offers a complex bouquet of ripe red fruits and spices, with notes of graphite, sage, and Kalamata olive. On the palate, it is elegant and structured with fine tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, silky finish blending ripe fruit, spices, and minerality. Pairs beautifully with a herb-roasted beef tenderloin or a traditional Provençal stew.
