History
Born in the heart of Roussillon, between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean, this 1936 Rivesaltes Ambré is a unique witness to French winemaking history. From the stony, clay-limestone, and arid soils of the Roussillon plain, it has endured nearly a century before being bottled in 2014. The product of the ancestral expertise of the Arnaud de Villeneuve house, this rare vintage is presented in a numbered 50 cl format.
Vinification
Made from Macabeu, White Grenache, and Grey Grenache, it is vinified according to the traditional method of natural sweet wines: destemmed harvest, direct pressing, and fermentation halted by mutage on the must. Aging in concrete tanks, then large casks and barrels, has shaped its aromatic complexity and its character polished by time.
Tasting Notes
The color, a reddish-amber with old-gold highlights, signals great maturity. The powerful and complex nose opens with notes of rancio, coffee, mild spices, curry, vanilla, gingerbread, and dried apricot. On the palate, the attack is rich and concentrated, balanced by a beautiful freshness. Flavors of dates, dried fruits, and coffee-rancio stretch into a long finish.
A wine of memory, ideal to elevate foie gras, citrus desserts, honey pastries, or simply for contemplative tasting.
