Otronia 45 Rugientes Corte de Blancas 2021 is a blend of 48% Chardonnay, 27% Gewürztraminer, and 25% Pinot Grigio, grown on clay-gravel soils in Sarmiento, Chubut, Patagonia. The grapes are gently pressed without destemming. Each grape variety fermented separately in stainless steel tanks and concrete eggs. After blending, the wine was aged for 22 months in untoasted French oak foudres and concrete tanks. Alcohol 13%, pH 3.30, TA 6.1. The Otronia estate, founded in 2008 in Sarmiento, Chubut, Argentina, was born in a region previously untouched by vineyards. Managed by winemaker Juan Pablo Murgia, it achieved immediate success from its very first harvest in 2017. The estate maintains an organic approach and adapts to the region's climate challenges. Otronia is now recognized as the flagship producer of Chubut, Patagonia.
On the nose, a delicate and floral profile, with notes of white flowers, citrus, and white-fleshed fruits. On the palate, ample and textured, balanced by a fresh, elegant, and persistent acidity, with a clean and refined finish. It pairs well with sole meunière fillets with beurre blanc or a roasted chicken with herbs de Provence. Aging potential of 3 to 5 years.
Argentina
Between 38° and 45° south latitude, Patagonia is among the world's southernmost vineyards. Cool climate, constant winds and alluvial soils, sometimes calcareous, produce wines of remarkable natural purity and acidity. Under the Patagonia Argentina appellation, three zones stand out: Río Negro for its elegant wines, Neuquén for their power, and Chubut, the southernmost, for their aromatic freshness. Malbec, the king grape variety, offers a fresher and more elegant style there than in the rest of the country, alongside Pinot Noir, Merlot and crystalline whites.
