The Argentine region of Jujuy is located in the most northern part of the country. In fact, the highest vineyards in the world are found in Uquía, a town in the province of Jujuy. These vines can be found 3 329 metres above sea level. This wine region is quite small compared to others in the area and exports far less. This is too bad, considering how structured and rich these wines are. The most cultivated grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Merlot. These grapes deliver fragrant aromas of pepper and blackcurrant. And as they mature, notes of spice and undergrowth are revealed.
A bright and polished wine that combines ripe fruit with cool-climate freshness. Notes of red berries, subtle spice, and a touch of minerality lead to a smooth, lingering finish.
The 2020 Merlot from Bodega del Desierto delivers plush plum and black cherry aromas, accented by hints of cocoa and soft herbs. Silky tannins and refreshing acidity make it balanced and easy to enjoy.
This Merlot was a pleasant surprise—medium-bodied with silky tannins and subtle notes of plum, black cherry, and a hint of cedar. Paired beautifully with grilled duck breast. Not too heavy, not too light. Just right for a quiet evening in.

It's not every day that one gets to taste a wine from Patagonia. I’d pair it with a primo piatto, like pasta with tomato sauce.
