This Gewurztraminer breaks the rules. Sourced from a terraced plot planted by the family's grandfather in the heart of the Praelatenberg Grand Cru, it benefits from well-draining soil rich in gneiss. The aim of this cuvée is to rediscover this aromatic grape variety in a completely dry style, far from the usual off-dry standards.
In the warm and dry 2022 vintage, the Engel brothers managed to preserve freshness through precise biodynamic viticulture (Demeter certified) and early manual harvesting. The winemaking is unfussy: a long 8-hour whole-bunch pressing followed by 24 months ageing on lees in stainless steel tanks, bringing richness and stability.
With only 1.6 g/l of residual sugar, this deep golden wine surprises. The nose stays true to the grape variety with notes of lychee stone and curry. On the palate, the wine is full and enveloping, structured by noble bitterness and a saline finish typical of the crystalline terroir. A true gastronomic wine, powerful (14.47% abv) and angular.
