History
Nestled in the heart of the Agly Valley, Domaine La Coume du Roy is one of the oldest and most prestigious producers of Maury, with vintages dating back to 1880. This 1929, born nearly a century ago, is a true witness to the history of the vineyard. Crafted from Grenache—the emblematic grape of the appellation, which covers nearly 80% of the estate—it expresses the power and aromatic depth that have built Maury’s reputation.
Vinification
Following a long maceration and vinified by mutage on the skins, this natural sweet wine underwent exceptional oxidative aging in small oak casks and glass demijohns. Nearly a hundred years of evolution have shaped a rare nectar, where concentration and noble rancio embody the patience and savoir-faire handed down from generation to generation.
Tasting Notes
Its deep amber robe with mahogany highlights reveals extraordinary intensity. The nose unfolds with notes of dried fruits, walnut, roasted coffee, and caramel—hallmarks of great mature Maury Doré. On the palate, richness and aromatic power are balanced by unexpected freshness, leading to a long, persistent finish. This 1929 is a collector’s wine, to be savored in contemplation, on its own or with intense dark chocolate, aged Comté, or dishes with candied flavors.
