Maury Traditionnel 1999 Mas de Lavail
Maury Traditionnel 1999 Mas de Lavail
History
1999 marks both the founding of Domaine Mas de Lavail and the birth of this emblematic cuvée. Located in the heart of the Maury appellation, at the foot of Château de Quéribus, the estate spans 80 hectares of black schist and clay-limestone soils. Managed by Jean and Nicolas Batlle, father and son, it carries forward a four-generation family tradition focused on sustainable viticulture and respect for the land.
Vinification
Made from Grenache Blanc and Gris, this Maury Ambré was hand-harvested in 1999, then muté on the must before aging for nearly 20 years in barrels. This prolonged oxidative aging has produced a wine of rare complexity, awarded 3 stars and a “Coup de Cœur” in the 2020 Guide Hachette.
Tasting Notes
Its copper-colored robe with caramel highlights announces a rich aromatic palette: candied and eau-de-vie fruits, orange peel, coffee, mocha, and gentle spices. On the palate, it offers a masterful balance of sweetness, freshness, and elegance. The long, refined finish confirms an exceptional wine. Best served at 13–16 °C, it can be enjoyed alone or paired with foie gras, almond pastilla, blue cheeses, or a dark chocolate fondant.
