Rivesaltes Ambré 1988, Arnaud de Villeneuve
Rivesaltes Ambré 1988, Arnaud de Villeneuve
History
The 1988 Rivesaltes Ambré from Arnaud de Villeneuve embodies the richness of Roussillon’s great natural sweet wines. Aged 30 years in large casks and barrels before bottling in 2018, this rare vintage reflects the patience and expertise of the cooperative’s winemakers. It was awarded 91/100 by Gilbert & Gaillard and 2 stars in the Guide Hachette 2020.
Vinification
Made from a traditional blend of Roussillon white grape varieties, this wine is produced with destemming and direct pressing, followed by mutage on the must to preserve its aromatic richness. Aging in concrete tanks, large casks, and barrels has shaped its complex and deep profile.
Tasting Notes
The amber color with copper highlights precedes an intense nose of rancio, walnuts, dried figs, and gingerbread. On the palate, it charms with its breadth and complexity: fresh hazelnuts, hints of candied orange, and a long finish on noble rancio.
A contemplative wine, equally enjoyable on its own or with foie gras, orange cake, or honey pastries.
