Nanny Goat Vineyard is the brainchild (or vinechild, if you will) of winemaker Alan Peters-Oswald, the Pinot Noir specialist. The name hails from the wild goats that roam the mountainous region of Central Otago, which is the most southerly wine region in the world and on New Zealand’s South Island. To the vintage, go the spoils. Each growing season, there are one or two parcels that outshine the others. The Super Nanny Pinot Noir is harvested among the best plots in the Nanny Goat Vineyard and selected partner vineyards. This wine is an exercise in comparing and contrasting. It is equal parts dark plum and light, ethereal floral notes. The palate is brimming with wild berries and dark chocolate and layered by a tight and tucked minerality in a blanket of fine tannins. With its refreshing acidic punch, this wine pairs nicely with duck or seared hare…and anything mushroom, really.
