Here is a red wine that proves that old vines are tough broads. Even when the vintage is rough, they prove their reliability and strength. This 100% Syrah (aka Serine in the Côte-Rôtie appellation) is aged for 12 months in oak barrels and 12 months in oak vats, which are much larger than your average barrel. This mixed ageing method, between smaller and larger spaces, allows for the wine to benefit from the best of both worlds. The barrel provides the wine with woodiness, meanwhile, the vat allows for its natural fruit to really flourish. The bouquet of this Hermitage is a symphony of licorice and blackberry jelly, and reveals notes of elderflower and gingerbread along the way, up until the finish. On the palate, this wine has got it all - it is elegant, complex and balanced. The perfect match for ribeye steak, ratatouille, lasagna or a lamb shank.
