Tasmanian Wine: freshness, elegance and great Pinot Noirs from the south
Freshness, elegance, and rarity: that's what defines Tasmanian wine. This Australian island at the end of the world has risen among the most promising wine regions in the southern hemisphere. Thanks to its temperate oceanic climate, preserved terroirs, and artisanal viticulture, it gives birth to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, and sparkling wines of character, still little known but already essential.
A Cool Climate Serving Aromatic Purity
In Tasmania, wine is forged far from the crushing heat of the continent. The island enjoys mild summers, cool nights, and a long growing season. The result? Slow ripening of the grapes, preserved natural acidity, and wines with a taut, straight, and vibrant profile. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay dominate the plantings, but there are also superb Rieslings, Gewurztraminers, Pinot Gris, and Sauvignon Blancs.
Pinot Noir takes on a delicate face here, between small red fruits, forest floor, and sweet spices. The Chardonnays are taut, sometimes chalky, always elegant. As for bubbles, traditional method sparkling wines worthy of great crémants... or even some champagnes are produced.
Tamar, Derwent, Coal River... the Star Valleys

- Derwent Valley and Coal River Valley, around Hobart, confirm the incredible potential of southern terroirs, especially for Chardonnay and aromatic grape varieties.
- The Pipers River area, in the northeast, is renowned for its fine bubbles, on clay-sandy soils and under maritime influence.
