REGION

Salta

Argentina

Located in northwest Argentina, at the foot of the Andes, the Salta wine region is one of the most spectacular in the country. Its vineyards, perched between 1,600 and over 3,000 metres above sea level, are among the highest in the world. This extreme altitude climate, sunny by day and cool at night, combined with arid, mineral soils, favours wines of great aromatic intensity and remarkable freshness.

While Torrontés remains the signature white grape of Salta, the reds are just as remarkable. Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tannat find an intense expression here, marked by concentrated fruit, lovely natural tension and typical aromas of flowers, spice and warm stone. Old grapes are also being rediscovered, such as Criolla Chica, brought by Spanish settlers in the 16th century. Hardy and well suited to altitude, it gives light, fruity wines with floral notes and lovely natural freshness.

At the heart of these valleys, the small town of Cafayate is seen as the wine centre of the region. Its wines, recognised internationally, combine power, freshness and minerality in a style unique to this part of the world.
