The Local Nose - One year later !
A community of wine lovers discovering wines from around the world
The Local Nose is celebrating its paper anniversary! That’s right, one full year. The concept is simple. To discover wines from around the world (including France, of course) with wine lovers, to create a network, and especially, a community. The Local Nose meets in Paris and in Bordeaux for now (other French cities are on their way), reuniting professionals and amateurs of the vino world.
The Local Nose (TLN for those in the nose, get it?) is celebrating its paper anniversary! That’s right, one full year. After 12 months of ageing, we’ve shared and tasted over 120 wines from 15 different countries with over 70 people.
Laughs. Meetups. Tastings. Discussions. A TLN wine tasting is not your average wine tasting. You come to learn and take a load off. You get the chance to hear independent sommelier Jasmina Urosevic explain the basics of malolactic fermentation and champagne disgorging, or Pato Dupont, an Argentinian importer, talk about why Argentinians still prefer red wine to white wine (as with many things, it’s cultural). Sometimes, a TLN event can even spark debates. Are screw tops…screwed up? Natural wine…an evolution, a revolution or just a fad? We sometimes even discover some pretty wild information…HOW MUCH was that glass of wine in Dubai? And how much does a glass of Sancerre cost in the States? Spoiler alert : more than $40. Sure, we all love wine, but, depending on where we come from, we don’t all drink it the same way.
Wine is a whole universe. TLN is too. We talk about wine and food pairings with Sutanya Dacres, who writes how she cooks : with precision, humour and love. Raphaël Blazy shares with us the intrinsic link between wine and art, while Chloé Brasé pairs it with yoga - santé and namaste! You get it : loving wine is more than a profession, it is a passion.
Wine is more than what you see and taste. It is culture, history, economy, climate, geography and topography. Each TLN event is more than a tasting, it is a trip to a new destination and a new world.
Speaking of TLN, why not let them speak for themselves? We asked them to find words to describe their experience in our growing community of oenophiles. These are the words that came to mind:
- Discovery
- Sharing
- Fun
- Travel
- Dynamic
- Dialogue
- Diversity
And saving the best for last…it’s not a word, but it does describe the experience quite well: aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!
The Local Nose…it’s quite a ride.
