DESCRIPTION
Hewitson is not your average winemaker. Dean Hewitson, aka the ‘Mad Hatter,’ makes extraordinary wine, some from extraordinarily old vines that date back to 1853 (P.P. - pre-phylloxera). One of these Mourvèdre vines, found in The Old Garden vineyard, is one of the oldest in the world. This eponymous wine is both rare and remarkable. It is pure warmth and silk, thanks to an aromatic assortment box filled with black cherry, clove, pepper and licorice. The taste buds are then led to savour notes of orange peel, chocolate and woodsy spices. The Old Garden invokes the senses and promises an epicurean adventure that pairs quite nicely with grilled lamb, wild mushroom risotto, or a sea-salt chocolate bar.
