DESCRIPTION
Hewitson is not your average winemaker. Dean Hewitson, aka the ‘Mad Hatter,’ makes extraordinary wine, some from extraordinarily old vines that date back to 1853 (P.P. - pre-phylloxera). The Mad Hatter nickname does not come from Alice in Wonderland, but considering the aromatic journey this wine takes us on, it might as well have. This shiraz is picked from the best plots from the Hewitson vineyards. It is filled to the brim with notes of red fruit, especially raspberry, and sprinkles of pepper and spice provide the wine its complexity. The tannins are fine, while the finish is velvety smooth. The Mad Hatter will pair nicely with lasagna, bolognese, or lamb skewers with herbes de provence.

The Barossa Valley is an extremely important wine-producing region within the Barossa zone of South Australia, particularly associated with powerful red wines from the red wine grape variety Shiraz. A prestigious and internationally renowned region, it is not only home to some of the oldest vineyards and wineries in Australia but produces some of its most recognizable and sought-after brands. A striking feature of the Barossa Valley's wine landscape is the presence of very old vines, proudly showcased on many wine labels and during vineyard tours.
