Argentine Wines and French Cheese Pairings at the Cheese Museum in Paris
A Memorable Tasting Evening at the Cheese Museum
In the enchanting setting of Île Saint-Louis, in the heart of Paris's 4th arrondissement, we experienced an exceptional gastronomic journey combining the finest Argentine wines with artisanal French cheeses. The Living Cheese Museum, a true temple of French gastronomy, became the stage for a unique encounter between two culinary cultures.
A Meeting of Passionate Experts
The evening was illuminated by the presence of renowned Argentine winemakers: Marcos Etchart from Bodega Fernando Dupont, Martin Perez Combet from Bodega del Desierto, and Agustin Lanus from his eponymous bodega. Each shared their passion through stories of their terroirs and wines, creating a warm and convivial atmosphere.
Extraordinary Wine and Cheese Pairings
The magic of the evening was particularly revealed through meticulously crafted pairings. Pierre Brisson, founder of the Museum, guided us through a unique tasting journey, sharing fascinating anecdotes about the origin and history of each cheese. Here are the pairings that marked the evening:
White Wines and Light Pairings
- The Torrontés Viñas en Flor "The Llama" 2023 married wonderfully with a farmhouse Sainte-Maure de Touraine, creating a perfect harmony between the wine's freshness and the cheese's delicacy.
- Agustin Lanus's Ilogico Criolla 2021 found its soulmate in a farmhouse Saint-Marcelin from Rochas farm, offering a duo of pure finesse.
Red Wines and Their Companions
- Bodega Del Desierto's Pinot Noir 2021 accompanied by an Époisses aged in Marc de Bourgogne created an explosion of flavors, surprisingly developing notes reminiscent of foie gras.
- Agustin Lanus's Ilogico Malbec 2020 proved sublime with a farmhouse Reblochon from Missilier.
- Bodega Fernando Dupont's Punta Corral 2021 found an ideal partner in a farmhouse Morbier from the Poulet farm.
- Bodega Del Desierto's Cabernet Franc 2019 harmoniously paired with an Ossau-Iraty from Estive Lou Nouste.
- Fernando Dupont's Sikuri 2021 concluded the journey with a Swiss alpine L'Etivaz.
An Exceptional Historical Setting
The Cheese Museum's decor, nestled in a historic mansion on Île Saint-Louis, added a magical dimension to the event. The stone vaults and authentic atmosphere created the perfect backdrop for this meeting between Argentine terroirs and French cheese heritage.
An Evening Rich in Discoveries
Participants particularly appreciated Pierre Brisson's detailed explanations about the history and aging techniques of each cheese, while the Argentine winemakers shared their winemaking secrets and terroir anecdotes. This fusion of knowledge allowed everyone to understand the complexity and beauty of the proposed pairings.
