History
This cuvée, inherited from the century-old cooperative expertise, embodies the sunny richness of Roussillon combined with the elegance of oxidative aging.
Vinification
Traditional mutage with grape spirit during fermentation, followed by prolonged aging in oak barrels to develop the renowned rancio.
Tasting Notes
Brilliant tawny robe. Aromas of candied fruits, prune, bitter orange, and blond tobacco. On the palate, a balance between sweetness and freshness, with hints of roasted coffee and gentle spices. Perfect paired with dried duck breast, 24-month Comté, or a dark chocolate dessert.
France
In the heart of Roussillon, the Maury appellation spreads over black schist slopes that hold the heat of the sun and give Grenache Noir its ideal terroir. Alongside this leading grape, Grenache Gris and Grenache Blanc complete the mix. This mineral, luminous setting gives powerful, expressive vins doux naturels, mostly red, but also amber or tawny. Maury comes in several styles. Maury Grenat (or young Maury) shows generous fruit, with intense notes of cherry and blackberry. Maury Traditionnel and Vieux Maury are aged oxidatively, revealing aromas of cocoa, fig, coffee and elegant rancio. Old vintages, sometimes kept for decades in cask, are especially sought after: they combine depth, complexity and an astonishing freshness that defies time.
