History
Since 1910, the Vignerons de Maury have crafted iconic natural sweet wines from the Agly Valley. This 1996 vintage exemplifies the tradition of Vieilles Réserves, born from patience and the black schist terroir.
Vinification
Grenache harvested at high ripeness, mutaged on the grapes, then aged for many years in old casks. Time has shaped a tawny Maury of rare depth.
Tasting Notes
Mahogany robe with copper highlights. Intense nose of bitter cocoa, dried fig, fine leather, and delicate rancio. On the palate, it is broad and velvety, with notes of mocha and toasted hazelnut. A persistent finish, perfect with a walnut tart or an aged cheese.
France
In the heart of Roussillon, the Maury appellation spreads over black schist slopes that hold the heat of the sun and give Grenache Noir its ideal terroir. Alongside this leading grape, Grenache Gris and Grenache Blanc complete the mix. This mineral, luminous setting gives powerful, expressive vins doux naturels, mostly red, but also amber or tawny. Maury comes in several styles. Maury Grenat (or young Maury) shows generous fruit, with intense notes of cherry and blackberry. Maury Traditionnel and Vieux Maury are aged oxidatively, revealing aromas of cocoa, fig, coffee and elegant rancio. Old vintages, sometimes kept for decades in cask, are especially sought after: they combine depth, complexity and an astonishing freshness that defies time.

This 1996 vintage, with its straightforward style and beautiful acidity (88/100), reveals itself after twenty-nine years to be a balanced Vieille Réserve, a Maury that combines structure and aromatic finesse.
