Maury Tuilé Vieille Reserve 1998, Vignerons de Maury
Maury Tuilé Vieille Reserve 1998, Vignerons de Maury
History
Founded in 1910, the Vignerons de Maury cooperative embodies the living memory of Roussillon’s natural sweet wines. Nestled in the heart of the Agly Valley, on its characteristic black schist soils, it preserves expertise passed down through generations. The Vieille Réserve designation reflects prolonged and careful aging, which has made the Maury appellation renowned.
Vinification
Made primarily from Grenache Noir, this Maury Tuilé Vieille Réserve 1998 was vinified using the traditional natural sweet wine method: mutage on the grapes to preserve natural sugars, followed by long oxidative aging in old oak barrels. This patient process develops the famous rancio character, highly prized by connoisseurs.
Tasting Notes
Its deep tawny robe signals a wine of great maturity. The nose is complex, combining candied black fruits, toasted walnuts, cocoa, and spicy notes. On the palate, the balance is superb: silky richness and freshness come together, supported by a persistent finish of dried fruits, coffee, and noble rancio. A contemplative wine to enjoy on its own, it also pairs beautifully with dark chocolate fondant, dried fruit tart, or a strong blue cheese like Roquefort.
