Vintage Port
Vintage Port is one of the world's great age-worthy wines — rare, declared only in exceptional vintages, and capable of evolving over decades in the cellar to reveal unmatched complexity. At Vinodelice, we have selected the finest vintages from Quinta da Romaneira, one of the most remarkable quintas in the Upper Douro, to bring you an exceptional collection of Vintage Ports.

Vintage Port Quinta da Romaneira: the finest expression of the Upper Douro
Among the world's greatest Vintage Ports, Quinta da Romaneira holds a unique place. Nestled in the heart of the Douro Valley, between Pinhão and Alijó in the Cima Corgo region, this historic estate — already celebrated in the 19th century — embodies the most ambitious expression of what the Douro can produce. Since 2004, under the guidance of a group of passionate investors including Christian Seely, Managing Director of Axa Millésimes and the properties of Quinta do Noval, and Antonio Agrellos, one of Portugal's most decorated winemakers, the quinta has reclaimed its place among the absolute references of Vintage Port.
An exceptional terroir: schist, terraces and Touriga Nacional
Quinta da Romaneira's 85 hectares of vines are cultivated on terraces over schist soils — the iconic bedrock of the Upper Douro, ensuring controlled water stress, slow phenolic ripening and exceptional aromatic concentration. Touriga Nacional, the flagship grape of Port wine, forms the backbone of the blends, alongside Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Roriz and Sousão. This carefully selected grape variety, vinified in stainless steel lagares using foot-treading and robotic plungers, guarantees gentle extraction and full respect for the raw material.
Vintage Port: the art of the declaration
Vintage Port is not produced every year — it is only declared in vintages of exceptional quality, and represents less than 2% of total Port production. Fermented at controlled temperature, aged in oak vats for 18 to 24 months, it is then destined for decades of bottle ageing. Quinta da Romaneira has declared notable vintages in 2011, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020 — a series that reflects the estate's remarkable consistency across a wide range of climatic conditions.
Available vintages at Vinodelice
2020 Vintage — A blend of 60% Touriga Nacional, 34% Touriga Franca and 6% Sousão, aged 20 months in oak vats. Ripe dark fruits, chocolate, spice and subtle oak. Rich and concentrated, with fine tannins and a persistent finish. Ageing potential of 30 years and beyond.
2019 Vintage — A dry, sunny summer with refreshingly cool temperatures produced grapes of remarkable health. 70% Touriga Nacional, 27% Touriga Franca, 3% Sousão. Deep purple colour, wild berries, violets and layered spices. Velvety tannins and a very long finish. One of the most seductive vintages of the decade. Age 20 to 30 years.
2018 Vintage — Touriga Nacional dominant (70%), aged 24 months in tonéis. Dark fruits and prunes, firm structure, lively acidity. Will open fully from 2029 onwards. Age 20 to 30 years.
2016 Vintage — Widely regarded as one of the greatest classic vintages since 2011, declared by most of the Douro's leading producers. A blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinto Cão. Intense aromatics of spice, wild berries and violets. Elegant palate, velvety tannins, long finish. Age 20 to 30 years.
2015 Vintage — A vintage celebrated for the purity of its wines. The estate's classic blend, with intense aromatics, velvety tannins and a long, lingering finish. A natural match for dark chocolate and aged cheeses. Age 20 to 30 years.
2011 Magnum (1.5L) — Unanimously considered one of the greatest vintages of the 21st century. Rated 95 points by Wine Spectator. Floral aromas of raspberry, black cherry and blackcurrant, mid-palate minerality, notes of mocha and pepper. Ultra-limited production. Best enjoyed from 2030 to 2050. The Magnum format, ideal for serious cellars, slows ageing and amplifies complexity.
Why buy a Quinta da Romaneira Vintage Port?
Vintage Port is one of the most rewarding age-worthy wines in the world in terms of long-term value. It develops a complexity — leather, tobacco, candied fruits, cedar, spice — that very few wines can match over time. In the case of Quinta da Romaneira, the consistency of style, the quality of the terroirs and the international reputation of the Seely-Agrellos duo make these wines a confident choice for building a serious cellar or offering an exceptional gift.
A Vintage Port will keep easily for 30 to 50 years under good conditions (cool, dark cellar, bottles on their side). Once opened, it can be enjoyed over several days or even weeks — unlike still wines.
Food pairings: Vintage Port and Tawny from Romaneira
Romaneira's Vintage Ports pair naturally with blue cheeses — Roquefort, Stilton — dark chocolate desserts, braised meats and game. For the Tawny and Colheita styles, opt for pastries with dried fruits, caramel, crème brûlée or a well-aged cheese board. Serve Vintage Ports at 9°C, Tawnies between 9 and 12°C.
