Barlet Raymond & Fils, Marestel Tradition 2023

🇫🇷 AOC Roussette de Savoie Marestel | Savoie | France

The Marestel cru is undoubtedly the most prestigious terroir for Altesse in Savoie. Situated on the steep hillside of Jongieux, this vineyard benefits from exceptional sun exposure. The Barlet family (Cave du Prieuré), winegrowers for five generations, cultivates this indigenous grape variety with passion, producing wines renowned for their richness and aging potential.

Sourced from the 2023 vintage, this Marestel is vinified to express the power of the terroir. The Altesse naturally develops a superior aromatic complexity here. The traditional vinification in tanks preserves freshness while allowing the wine to develop its richness (gras) and characteristic structure over the months.

This white wine is distinguished by a palate marked by a beautiful volume of fruit, counterbalanced by racy bitterness typical of Altesse. The finish is both tender and fresh. A great mealtime wine that will sublimate a monkfish with saffron, Abondance cheese, or a spicy Thai broth.

REGION

Savoie

France

Savoie is a mountainous French wine region located near the Swiss border. The region is very fragmented by its mountainous terrain. The cool climate of Savoie dictates the predominance of crisp white wines produced in the region. Despite the difficulty of reds to mature in this type of climate, Savoie is the home of Mondeuse, a red grape variety used to make wines with a significant bitterness.
