Bodegas Olivares Umbría de la Hoya 2020 is a true expression of Monastrell, sourced from ungrafted old vines. Following natural fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in 500L French oak barrels, then refined for an additional 12 months in the bottle. Total acidity 5.0 g/L, residual sugar less than 2 g/L, alcohol 15%. Bodegas Olivares was founded in 1930 by Pascual Olivares Fernandez, driven by the conviction that Monastrell could reflect the unique character of Jumilla. The estate is located in the Hoya de Santa Ana area, at the highest altitude of the appellation, benefiting from warm days and cool nights, ideal for slow ripening. Across its 275 hectares, the estate primarily cultivates Monastrell, alongside Syrah and Grenache. Winemaking is natural, featuring manual harvesting and fermentation with indigenous yeasts.
On the nose, ripe fruits, spices, and a touch of balsamic. On the palate, this wine reveals a silky and fleshy texture, offering great complexity and a long, persistent finish. It pairs with a grilled beef fillet or a lamb curry. Serve between 16 and 18°C. Aging potential of 5 to 8 years.
Spain
The Murcia region is located in the south-eastern part of Spain. Thanks to its continental and mediterranean climates, the grapes in this area are highly concentrated and sweet. Murcia boasts three appellations of origin : Bullas, Jumilla and Yecla. This land is ideal for the Monastrell grape (Mourvèdre in France), a wonderfully tannic, and slightly acidic variety. The Monastrell variety is generous, full-bodied, and summons a number of aromas like fruit, pepper and truffle. The other red grape varieties found here are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. For the whites, Macabeo and Airén are common. In addition to these two typical Spanish grapes, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat and Pedro Ximénez are harvested in this region.
Livraison impeccable!
Really enjoyable wine: rich aromas, velvety texture, and a persistent finish.
Un vin qui révèle une profondeur de saveurs et des tanins soyeux
Ce vin est envoûtant de baies noires et d'épices subtiles, il persiste élégamment en bouche.
Umbria De La Hoya 2020 is versatile, pairing beautifully with grilled meats, hearty stews, and aged cheeses. Its layered complexity and polished finish make it an excellent choice for both casual and special occasions.
This wine offers intense black fruit aromas, complemented by hints of vanilla and toasted oak. The palate is generous yet refined, with firm tannins that provide excellent aging potential. A classic example of quality Spanish craftsmanship.
Light tannins, smooth and fruity—black cherry and plum come through right away. A touch of spice at the finish, which I liked. Had it with roasted chicken and it was just perfect. Great value for money.

Jerome - Local Nose
A wine that smells like sunshine – I found notes of juicy plum, garrigue, and a slightly saline finish that I love.
