In the land of Rabelais, on the banks of the Vienne, Chinon is the domain of Cabernet Franc in all its splendour. It is here, in a winegrowing family established for four generations in Cravant-les-Côteaux, that Justine Baudry grew up among the vines and vats. After a detour through floristry and a degree in agricultural engineering, she returned to the family land and launched her own estate: a singular, demanding project, founded on respect for the living and the truthfulness of the terroir. 

History / Heritage 

The Baudry family is one of the great families of Chinon. Bernard Baudry, an emblematic figure of the appellation, started with 2 hectares in 1975 before building a 30-hectare estate, certified organic, recognised in the finest guides worldwide. Justine Baudry is part of this fourth generation of winegrowers. Trained notably alongside Philippe Alliet (an absolute reference in Chinon) and the Gonon brothers in the northern Rhône, she returned to Chinon with her own sensibility, influenced by biodynamics and a parcel-by-parcel conception of wine. She works in connection with the family estate but carries a personal and contemporary vision. 

The Terroir 

Cravant-les-Côteaux, where Justine Baudry's vineyard is located, is one of the most sheltered villages in the Chinon appellation. The terroir there is remarkably varied: alluvial gravels along the riverbank (light, well-drained soils that give supple, aromatic wines), clay-limestone on the hillsides (richer, bringing structure and depth), and sands on certain plateaux. Cabernet Franc, which makes up 90% of the appellation's reds, expresses itself in these terroirs with an elegance and finesse that few grape varieties can match. 

Viticulture and Winemaking 

Justine Baudry works organically, in keeping with the family tradition. She is particularly attentive to soil work (ploughing, no chemical weeding) and low yields, a guarantee of natural concentration. In the cellar, she favours spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts, long ageing in old oak barrels or tanks, and bottling without fining or filtration. The aim is to render the character of each parcel with minimal intervention. 

Wines / Key Cuvées 

Justine Baudry's cuvées bear the names of their terroirs. The Chinon sur graves is the estate's entry-level wine: a light Cabernet Franc on alluvials, fruity and easy-drinking, with notes of raspberry, violet, and a discreet tannin. The clay-limestone cuvée is denser and more refined, with aromas of blackcurrant, liquorice, and a drier, longer texture. These wines, produced in small quantities, are sought out by lovers of authentic Cabernet Franc.
