Poderi Colla
History of the Colla family
The Poderi Colla estate is closely linked to the history of a family that left its mark on Piedmontese viticulture. For four generations, the Colla have embodied a rich heritage, combining centuries-old traditions and modern vision. Alfredo Colla, a pioneer of oenology in the region, laid the foundations of a know-how which was perfected by his son Beppe Colla, an emblematic figure in the development of prestigious appellations such as Barolo and Barbaresco. Today, the new generation continues to perpetuate this tradition with deep respect for the land and local grape varieties.
Winemaking approaches combining tradition and innovation
At Poderi Colla, each stage of winemaking reflects a philosophy centered on the purity and expression of the terroir. The harvest is carried out by hand to select the best grapes, guaranteeing impeccable quality from the vine. Fermentations take place naturally, with minimal use of technological interventions, in order to preserve the integrity of the grape varieties.
Aging, mainly in oak barrels, follows traditional methods, allowing the aromas to develop slowly while providing an elegant structure to the wines. This unique combination of respect for traditions and mastery of modern techniques allows Poderi Colla to produce wines that are balanced, complex and faithful to their terroir.
With a focus on sustainability and authenticity, the Colla family continues to write a story of winemaking excellence, celebrated by wine lovers around the world.
An exceptional terroir : the soul of Poderi Colla wines
The Poderi Colla estate is located in one of the most renowned regions for viticulture, Piedmont, Italy. This unique terroir, characterized by rich soils and a variety of microclimates, is ideal for producing high-quality wines, and it is in this exceptional setting that the Poderi Colla vines flourish.
The estate has three historic vineyards, each of which brings a particular identity to its wines. Cascine Drago, near Alba, is a vineyard with clay-limestone soils perfect for grape varieties like Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Freisa, producing elegant and well-balanced wines. Dardi le Rose, located in the heart of the Barolo appellation, benefits from optimal southern exposure and marl-limestone soils, allowing the production of powerful and complex Barolos, ideal for aging. Finally, Tenuta Roncaglia, in the Barbaresco appellation, is a historic vineyard with sandy-marl soils, where wines of great finesse are born, with floral and fruity aromas that reveal the richness of Nebbiolo.
Respect for the environment is at the heart of Poderi Colla’s winemaking practices. By cultivating its vines sustainably, without excessive use of chemicals, the estate preserves the biodiversity and authenticity of its soils, allowing each wine to tell the story of its terroir. Thanks to this approach, the estate's wines are a true reflection of Piedmont, a perfect alliance between wine-growing tradition, family know-how and respect for the territory.
The Iconic Wines of Poderi Colla
The estate is best known for its Barolos, powerful and refined wines that stand out for their aromatic complexity and aging capacity. Among the estate's flagship vintages, we find :
• Barolo Bussia: A rich and structured wine, with aromas of ripe red fruits, spices and dried roses. This Barolo is a model of balance, with fine tannins and a long finish.
• Barbera d'Alba Ronchi: This wine, produced from the Barbera grape variety, is fruitier and approachable, with notes of cherry and plum, and a refreshing acidity that makes it an excellent companion for meat dishes or cheeses refined.
• Dolcetto d'Alba: A lighter and fruitier wine, perfect for those looking for an everyday wine with a nice roundness on the palate.
These wines reflect a production philosophy centered on quality and respect for the environment. They are also the product of vines cultivated with care, using organic methods, without the use of chemical treatments.
