DESCRIPTION
Burn Cottage Vineyard is wine producer located in Central Otago wine region of New Zealand's South Island. Established in 2002 by Marquis and Dianne Sauvage in 2002, it produces wine predominantly from the Pinot Noir grape variety. This particular wine is perfumed with lovely aromatics of cherry, violets, and spice layered with hints of savoury bramble and a mineral element of wet riverstone. There is a wonderful finesse, layers of interest, and finely held textural tannins extending through the long palate.

Central Otago, near the bottom of New Zealand's South Island, vies for the title of world's most southerly wine region. Vineyards cling to the sides of mountains and high above river gorges in this dramatic landscape. Pinot Noir has proven itself in this challenging terroir, and takes up nearly three-quarters of the region's vineyard area. The typical Central Otago Pinot Noir is intense and deeply colored, with flavors of doris plum, sweet spice and bramble.

This Pinot Noir impressed me with its complexity. On the nose, notes of black cherry and violet. The structure is both dense and silky.
