The Story
Since 1810, Maison Lhéraud has embodied the art of vintage cognac with rare demanding standards. Located in Angeac, between Grande and Petite Champagne, it crafts spirits faithful to their terroir, distilled in a Charentais still and aged slowly in Limousin oak barrels. This 1996 vintage, sourced exclusively from the Petite Champagne cru, illustrates the Lhéraud style in all its nobility: balance, finesse, and depth.
The Vinification
Aged in Limousin oak barrels, this cognac benefits from controlled micro-oxygenation that enriches its aromatic palette. Notes of brown caramel, dried fruits, prune, vanilla, dark chocolate, and wood blend with subtle spices, offering a creamy, fleshy, and silky texture. The Petite Champagne confers finesse, length, and harmony on this exceptional vintage.
The Tasting
Amber in color, the Lhéraud Petite Champagne Cognac 1996 seduces with its long, harmonious, and warm finish, punctuated by fine tannins and nuances of delicate cocoa. Ideal as a cellar treasure or for tasting on special occasions, it perfectly illustrates the excellence of Petite Champagne eaux-de-vie.
France
Nouvelle-Aquitaine is the largest wine region in France, stretching from Poitiers to Pau through iconic areas such as Bordeaux, Cognac, Agen and Bergerac. It holds an exceptional diversity of terroirs, backed by centuries of winemaking and distilling know how, making it the birthplace of some of the most renowned spirits in the world.
In the north, in Charente and Charente Maritime, they make the famous Cognac, double distilled from white wines, and Pineau des Charentes, a fortified wine blending grape must and young cognac, loved for its freshness and roundness.
Further south, in the Gers, the Landes and Lot et Garonne, they produce Armagnac, the oldest brandy in France. Traditionally distilled in a continuous still, it comes from three areas: Haut Armagnac, Ténarèze and Bas Armagnac. These three terroirs sit on the Lannemezan alluvial fan, an ancient soil of sand, clay and pebbles from the erosion of the Pyrenees. They give expressive, elegant and nuanced brandies, with aromas of ripe fruit, sweet spice and dried fruit, revealed as they age in cask.
Patricio - Local Nose
Un 1996 d'une grande finesse et profondeur. Le nez est riche, avec des notes de caramel brun, chocolat noir et pruneau. La bouche est charnue et soyeuse, très onctueuse. Finale longue et chaleureuse, portée par des tanins fins.
